A Personal Note

Happy Spring everyone! As I am busy Spring cleaning at Panda Park I am also busy Spring cleaning in my home. Yesterday I participated in a MOM2MOM resale sale at my daughter's school (for those of you who live outside of Michigan to learn more about MOM2MOM sales click here). I have heard that these types of sales only occur in the metro-Detroit area, but if I am wrong please let me know. Anyway, a MOM2Mom sale is exactly what you think it would be. You lug all your baby items, accessories, blankets, clothes, strollers, playpens, Little Tyke toys, etc. etc. that you no long need/want to the sale and other moms come to buy them. Ok, so... I sold a lot of items yesterday at the MOM2MOM sale which feels great and today I am listing some girls clothes and other items on Ebay. Some outfits are hard to let go of..just like the one pictured above right on my younger daughter Lily. The outfit is from the Gymboree Bonjour Providence line and was so cute on her. And..it's still like brand new! But, what are you gonna do, right? It doesn't fit anymore so out it goes. If you are interested in checking out my Ebay auctions out of curiousity or because you are looking for great deals on really cute girls clothes size 18-24 Month, 2T and 3T go ahead and click here. Have a wonderful and hopefully somewhat restful Sunday. I'll see you tomorrow for Monday's Deal of the Day.

Gift Giving For a New Baby

Gift Giving for a New Baby by Sarah Garr

A new child gives a whole new meaning to "Once upon a time..." Parents' hopes and dreams are finally realized when their new bundle of joy arrives. Not only are the parents feverishly preparing for the monumental event, but the grandparents and aunts and uncles are eagerly awaiting the new arrival as well. And let's not forget the anticipation from the siblings who are so exited for a new member of the family to play with. Today, gifts are given not only to the new baby and mother, but also sibling gifts are a common occurrence.
Baby showers are a never forgotten gesture set forth by close friends. Whether these friends are from the neighborhood, work or church, everyone delights in contributing to the baby shower. Whether it is giving a beautiful baby gift basket orcoordinating the entire event, everyone's attendance is appreciated and loved. Details for any baby shower include baby gifts, hilarious games, scrumptious food and a stunning centerpiece. Many hostesses take a practical approach to a babyshower centerpiece by displaying a diaper cake. Diaper cakes come in a multitude of designs and styles. This focal point of any "goody table" can be customized to any new mother's style and taste. Usually diaper cakes are constructed from disposable diapers and are embellished with anything from baby blankets to baby toys. Everything on a diaper cake is practical for the new mother to utilize. And besides, what baby couldn't use more Diapers?
Personalized baby gifts are always cherished by new parents. For someone to make that extra effort of giving a gift that expresses the importance of the individual child, these are especially important gifts, for the babies who are born second and third in a family. Sibling gifts that are personalized show to the new older brother or older sister that they are important individuals in this amazing event of a new family member's arrival.
New mothers love the idea of beautiful baby blankets. Whether the blanket is a baby quilt or a complete baby bedding set, this gesture will be cherished by any new mom, because it is a sensible gift that will be used each and every day. From classic fleece baby blankets to trendy silk baby blankets all take on an important role in the life of a new baby. On some occasions, modern moms like to use baby blankets that flash color and design, yet on others, they may want to use a more classic blanket style that holds true through the test of time. Giving a unique baby gift that is affordable and completely adorable is no hard task when keeping in mind personalized baby gifts, baby bedding sets or baby blankets. Obtaining an original baby shower gift can be as easy as an elegantly designed baby gift basket oran imaginative diaper cake.

About the author: When Sarah Garr is not chasing after her energetic toddler she is busy coddling her new baby, Sweet Tater Baby Gifts. Sweet Tater Baby Gifts offers a full line of unique and personalized baby gifts and baby gift ideas.

Giving Your Baby A Sippy Cup

Giving Your Baby A Sippy Cup
By: Christine Albury

At some point before your baby's first birthday, you will probably be thinking about giving him a sippy cup. Maybe you would like to give him a little water, or perhaps you plan to pump your breast milk and would like to bypass bottles altogether, weaning your baby straight to a cup. You may just want to get your baby accustomed to a cup in preparation for the transition from formula later on.
But when is the best time to start?
Well, this varies widely from baby to baby. Some babies are interested in sippy cups from as early as 6 months, whereas others show no interest at all until much later. It doesn't do any harm to offer your baby a sippy cup at any stage, although he may need a lot of help at first, particularly if he is very young.
There are many different styles of sippy cups on the market and it's very difficult to recommend the "ideal" variety - as you know, babies have their own opinions and preferences about many things and sippy cups are no exception!
Some models have valves and require your baby to suck quite vigorously. Some babies - younger ones in particular - don't get on so well with this type of cup and prefer a more "free-flowing" spout. While this may be a bit messy at first, itcan get your baby used to the idea of what a cup is all about.
MY BABY WON'T DRINK FROM A SIPPY CUP!
This is very common -- and many parents worry unnecessarily that their babies are somehow "falling behind" if they're not using a sippy cup by their first birthday.
Be patient. It is not essential that your child drink from asippy cup -- supplemental water and juice are, in general, unnecessary during baby's first year anyway.
Don't compare your baby to others -- all babies develop differently and "sippy cup skills" may not be your baby's area of expertise!
He'll work it out eventually - but in the meantime, here are afew tips to make the introduction of a sippy cup a little easier...
* If he's struggling to get a drink from the cup but doesn't seem to be able to suck hard enough, try removing the valve. Watch out, though, because the liquid will flow far more rapidly.
* Dip the spout into the liquid, so that your baby knows what's inside. Don't assume that he will automatically realize that a cup contains a drink!
* Demonstrate how to use the cup and display exaggerated enjoyment as you drink... so he really wants to taste some, too! Alternatively, have a sibling or little friend use a cup infront of him -- babies are natural mimics and seeing a friend enjoying a sippy cup may provide just the incentive he needs!
* Don't introduce the cup when he's tired -- if he's thirsty, he'll become frustrated and upset very quickly. Early in the morning, when he's wide awake, is the best time to try.
* Try different kinds of cups and spouts until you find the one your baby prefers. For a first cup, many babies like soft, rubbery spouts, which feel closer to a nipple.
* Try using a feeding set with interchangeable spouts. Some sets feature bottles on to which you can attach a regular nipple OR a sippy spout. Your baby may be happier about trying the spout if the bottle looks familiar.
* If you are planning on giving your baby formula or breastmilk from the sippy cup, then make sure you put milk in the cup when you introduce it to him. If you use water or juice, he may associate the cup with these drinks only -- and then refuse to take milk from the same cup.
IMPORTANT: Allow your baby to use a sippy cup in moderation only. Don't put him to bed with a cup of milk or juice as these drinks will "pool" around his teeth, leading to tooth decay. Always clean your baby's cup thoroughly -- particularly the valve, which can harbour bacteria.
SKIPPING THE SIPPY CUP
Some parents prefer not to use sippy cups at all -- they're certainly not essential and didn't even exist when WE were growing up!
There is some concern among speech therapists that the extended use of a sippy cup can affect oral development and speech skills-- and some parents just find these types of cups some what unhygienic, due to the need for scrupulous cleaning of the valves.
Some breastfeeding mothers have found that using the types of sippy cups that require vigorous sucking can cause their babies to latch on a little differently -- sometimes painfully -- as they become accustomed to sucking on the cup. Ifyou are breastfeeding, you might want to consider using a free-flowing spout, or trying these alternatives to using a sippy cup...
Some babies will readily drink from a regular cup, using a straw. If your baby is happy to do this, then cut the straw down to a length that's easier for him to control. Remember --never allow your baby to walk or run with a straw in his mouth.
Many parents find that "shot" glasses are perfect for babies (used under strict supervision, of course). The size is perfectf or baby's little mouth and hands -- and, because it's so small, there's not much to spill if he tips it over!

Benefits Of Baby Swimming Lessons

When my children were infants I really didn't think that swimming lessons would benefit them at such a young age. Looking back I wish that I would have started them in swimming lessons sooner for many reasons including getting them used to the water so they would feel more at ease. Here is great article I came across about this subject.

Benefits Of Baby Swimming Lessons by Rene Graeber

You may want your children to grow without the fear of water. With swimming lessons they become pretty much capable of handling themselves early on. The benefits are many and giving up the opportunity for your babies to learn these would be to their disadvantage later on in life.

Baby swimming lessons will first and foremost ensure that your child will be equipped with safety skills in the water. It would be a life saving skill for the child that can be used throughout his lifetime.

It has also been known that baby swimming lessons help these toddlers improve their stamina and breathing. The exercises may seem gentle, but these can do wonders for your children's health. Many studies have shown why such activities are recommended.

Coordination and strength are also developed with these baby swimming lessons. With these effects, the child is sure to grow with good mechanical abilities. The body would be healthier and in good general condition. Chances are, the child would most probably grow active and energetic as with possible love for water sports, or any other sports for that matter.

Swimming lessons also have the potential to increase a child's concentration and mental abilities. These lessons will help make the child alert on the surroundings he is in and his perceptualabilities are most likely to improve.

So you may want to enroll your child in a baby swimming center. Make sure however that it is qualified to conduct such baby lessons. It is of course necessary that you be there with your child to monitor how it is going. Private lessons are also offered by some as a good way to go if you have a pool of your own.

When you are confident enough to do, take on where the baby swimming centers have left off, you will have the opportunity in bonding with your child in a unique way. It is important when in the pool together that you maintain eye contact with him. Make him feel you are there with him - and let him feel secure with your presence there inside the water.

Make sure that these baby swimming lessons are fun for your kids- blow bubbles in the water, sing or gently splash water on their bodies. Having this sense of play will continue to attract your kids interests on swimming. Baby swimming lessons are of no doubt beneficial to your kids. Regular swimming is also often seen to improve sleeping patterns on babies as and their eating habits as well. So what's the wait? Enroll your child for a swimming lesson!

New Toy on the Block

This morning I am trying to track down some Webkinz for my daughters Easter baskets and of course it is a wild goose chase involving web searches, telephone calls and Ryan (husband) running to a store 20 miles away. They don't have Webkinz but they do have something similar by Russ called Shining Stars. The Shining Stars retail for about $15.99 and look so darling I even ordered one for myself. With the Shining Star you can do all the things that you can do with Webkinz including registering your new friend, playing games online and sending online greetings to your friends. You also receive a star registered in the International Star Registry. I also found them online at GivingGallery.com.

Treating Morning Sickness

Morning Sickness - Top Food Tips to Rid You from Nausea & Vomiting in Pregnancy

Author: Claire Batten

Are you suffering the affects of morning sickness? It seems so unfair that at a time of great joy and excitement women are plagued with nausea, vomiting and food aversions. Don't lose hope though, there are lots of practical things you can do with your diet that have a track record of helping women who are suffering from morning sickness.

* The smell of food can trigger morning sickness. Food that is cold tends to smell less so this is a better option to avoid triggering nausea and vomiting.

* Research has proven that blood sugar has an impact on morning sickness. By keeping your blood sugar stable you are less likely to suffer from nausea and vomiting. Having a good sized portion of protein at each meal will help to maintain your blood sugar levels. Having a protein snack before you go to bed and if you wake during the night will alleviate sickness upon waking.

* Try to avoid foods that make your blood sugar rise to quickly and subsequently fall. Foods such as fruit juice sugary snacks, highly processed foods including cereals and any food that contains white flour.

* Consume small frequent meals with a good amount of protein.

* Don't worry if the foods you are choosing do not seem too balanced. It's better to keep it down, than have a perfectly balance meal down the loo!

* Put a snack next to the bed at night so that you can eat it 20 minutes before you get up.

* Foods that are high in fat are more difficult to digest and can make nausea and vomiting worse. Other common culprits include, rich, spicy, acidic and fried foods.

* Stay hydrated. This is so important. Try and have regular small drinks (tea, soup, cool drinks) as gulping down large volumes of water can also increase the feelings of nausea. If you have been vomiting consider sipping an isotonic sports drink as it will help to restore balance to your blood sugars, glucose and electrolytes. It is much better to have some fluid in your stomach if you are going to vomit.

* Consider taking your prenatal vitamins at dinner time or just before you go to bed. Your body can handle it much better later in the day and is less likely to trigger nausea or vomiting. Sometimes iron supplements either on their own or part your normal prenatal can be harsh on your digestive system so consider reducing the amount. As soon as the nausea has passed you can increase the amount again. If you have a history of anemiathen do not reduce your iron supplementation without first discussing it with your healthcare provider.

* Ginger tea can be helpful as well as chewing raw ginger. It is worth trying any ginger based product such as ginger candy, ginger beer and stem ginger biscuits.

* Some ladies find Brewer's yeast capsules help to relieve morning sickness.

* Vitamin B6 has been demonstrated to reduce morning sickness and can be found in cereal grains, legumes, eggs, fish, chicken, nuts and avocados.

* Suck or sniff a lemon when you hit a wave of nausea

* Mint tea and mint chewing gum can be very calming to the digestive tract. Chewing gum can help if excessive saliva is a problem.

Overall it is best to listen to your instinct. It is there for a reason. If you are driven to eat a certain food, then eat it. If the thought or smell of a food makes you feel sick then it isbest avoided. Try to be as balanced as possible but do not worry if you cannot. If you are unable to keep anything down it is important to speak to your health care provider.
